The Dichotomy of Money Making Methods
16 October 2007 – 11:17 amIn this corner we have the “internet income dream” of making money day and night, 24 hours a day, while I sleep and spend time with my children. When I try to explain to my friends what I am doing when I am article marketing or building links or whatever, I liken it to planting seeds in a garden. There is a lot of watering and weeding at first, but hopefully I have planted trees, or at least perennials, that will bear fruit for years. There is the risk of investing a lot of time and money in something that never bears fruit or does poorly.
In the other corner we have the solid performance of exchanging time for money. This is more like raising radishes. Plant a seed and harvest in six weeks. Well, or maybe it would better to say, it is more like hiring yourself out to the master gardener for a dollar an hour to weed and water. You only get paid when you show up and work. At least you know you will get something for your time.
While engaged in the latter activity (exchanging time for money) at Mechanical Turk, because I am hoping to have a little something for Christmas, I found this interesting blog called The Wisdom of Abundance. I think this one is worth watching merely for the variety of ways this blogger is reporting on how to make money on the internet. I have filed away in the back of my mind this post about making money uploading your photos to a certain website that pays you when someone else downloads your photo. I would not characterize myself as a great photographer, but every once in a while I get lucky.
I think that not any given method of earning an income will work for every person. Also, there is much to be said for having multiple sources of revenue. We each need to find what will work for us, and sometimes that will mean trying a number of things.
